  1. How much do the cars cost to hire for a Wedding?

The cost of each car varies, the list of cars on our website is in order of cost, The Phantom Prince (Number 1) being the most expensive. The cost of each car is determined by what the car has to do for your Wedding - click on Quotation, give us the information asked for and we will send a fixed written quotation in the post. We will also clearly tell you which cars are already booked on the day of your Wedding.

  2. Are there any hidden extras?

No. Provided you tell us all that the cars have to do we will quote accordingly. We include the Uniformed Chauffeur, Ribbons, Silk Flowers on the rear shelf (if required) and an umbrella to match the car.

  3. How long do we have the cars for?

The duration of the Wedding. This means that the cars arrive at the place of pick up 15 minutes before the planned leaving time. They then drive to the place of the ceremony and wait whilst the Wedding itself takes place and the photographs are taken. The cars then go on to the reception venue, allowing time for photos to be taken before leaving. If anything in addition to this is required please inform us at the time your quotation is produced and we will quote accordingly. We do not have time restrictions and we only provide the cars for one Wedding each day.

  4. How many cars do we need?

Normally two cars are required. The main Bridal car takes Bride & Father to the ceremony, the second car taking the Bridesmaids, pageboys and Brides Mother. When the ceremony and photos are over the main Bridal car then takes the Bride & Groom to the reception whilst the second car takes the Bridesmaids plus the Brides Mother & Father. Sometimes a third car is provided to take the Groom, Best Man and the Grooms Parents. If you have a car for the Groom handcuffs are optional.

  5. We need two cars, possibly three, will they all match?

Yes. We have a second matching car for all our main Bridal cars. With most, but not all, we can provide a third matching car. When you come to see the cars we will advise you which cars are best together. Our Chauffeurs are in matching uniforms.

  6. How many people do the cars take?

Although our Bridal cars are classed as 4 seaters it is not practical to have a Bride, wearing a large Wedding Gown, with more than two other people in one car. Most of our second cars take seven adults, some only take four. Legally two children under the age of ten count as one adult.

  7. Can we use one car to first take the Bridesmaids and come back for the Bride?

Our policy is not to do this. Your Wedding is too important to us for us to take chances with anything that could possibly cause a problem.

  8. Do you do more than one Wedding a day with any of the cars?

  Never.

  9. Do you provide the cars for other functions?

Rarely, if we do special (expensive) insurance is needed. Our normal insurance is specifically for Wedding Hire only. We do not supply cars for films and we do not take the cars to Car Shows or Wedding Exhibitions. Once a year (on Jackie's Birthday) we have one of the Chauffeurs take us out in a car of Jackies choice.

  10. Do you provide Champagne for us to have in the car?

No. We do not allow drinks of any sort in our cars - if they become spilt whilst the car is moving the beautiful upholstery will be spoilt.

  11. Can we smoke in the cars?

Definitely not. Smoking is also strictly prohibited in the building where the cars are kept. We never purchase cars which have been smoked in.

  12. Can we view the actual cars?

Yes, in fact our cars cannot be booked for a Wedding unless you do come to see them. Please telephone to make an appointment and to get directions. Not only will we show you the cars (they are all in one very well lit and de-humidified building) but we will sit the Bride in the car she chooses to ensure that she has plenty of space for her Wedding Gown and that she can elegantly get in & out of the car for the cameras.

  13. Do all the cars shown on your website actually belong to you?

Yes, every one of them. Not only do they belong to us but they are all bought and paid for, we do not have any cars on lease or hire purchase.

  14. How much are the cars worth?

We don't really know. Some of them are very rare, some have had famous previous owners. All of them are in quite outstanding condition, most of them we bought years ago. Our LOR number plates are also very valuable. If you are thinking of making an offer you will need six numbers on The Lottery!

  15. Do all the cars have LOR registrations?

Yes, every car has an LOR number plate, we also have a spare one on retention.

  16. What do your Chauffeurs wear?

They are all in proper chauffeur uniforms (grey) with a peaked hat.

  17. Are your Chauffeurs actually employed by you?

Yes. Because we only provide our cars for Weddings they are all employed on a part time basis at weekends. They are all very experienced drivers, you will find them helpful on the day.

  18. Do the Chauffeurs do anything other than drive the cars?

Yes. They will open the car doors and help you in and out of the car. Should it rain they will have a large umbrella to keep you as dry as possible. They will take the bouquet as the Bride or Bridesmaids get in or out of the car. They will also assist your photographer to enable the best possible photos of the cars to be taken.

  19. Do your Chauffeurs carry mobile phones?

Yes. Because the cars are difficult to handle we do not telephone our Chauffeurs unless it is absolutely essential. If you need to speak to us you telephone 01707 262520 - when ever cars are out on Weddings our phones at base are manned.

  20. Does John ever drive the cars for a Wedding?

He is not allowed out on a Saturday or a Sunday but sometimes I let him out to drive on mid-week Weddings. (Jackie)

  21. Does Jackie ever drive the cars?

  No comment. (John)

  22. Do you ever book out all your 40 cars in one day?

No. Once 36 are booked we always keep the last four unbooked. Should a car be involved in an accident or have a mechanical problem or for some reason cannot be used we always have spare cars. In practise we also usually have one or two cancellations each week, when bookings are cancelled the cars rarely get re-booked. It is unusual for us to have less than 6 or 8 cars not being used even, on a busy day.

  23. Most of your cars are quite old - do they ever break down?

Provided they are correctly and properly maintained (as we ensure with all our cars) old cars are much more reliable than modern cars. They are much simpler with no complicated electronic gadgetry. Our cars are all British and we only have cars for which it is still possible to get spare parts and for which there is expertise reasonably local to us. 75 % of Rolls-Royce cars ever built are still in use. Should anything untoward happen we always have spare cars.

  24. What tips have you for a succesful Marriage?

Always do what she tells you (John)
Always do what he tells you (Jackie)

  25. Are the colours of the cars shown in the photos on your website accurate?

No. The photos used are not taken by a professional photographer - we produced them ourselves using an ordinary camera therefore you cannot use the photos as an exact guide to the colours. You need to come and view the actual cars. When our cars are resprayed the work is done by a company who specialise in Rolls-Royce cars so that all the cars look as they should and the pairs all match properly.

  26. Who are Lord Cars?

Lord Cars is a Limited company owned and managed by John and Jackie Lord. The sole function of the company is to provide cars for Weddings.

  27. How did Lord Cars start and how long have you been in going?

Back in the 1960s, in the days of The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Hipster flare trousers, England winning the World Cup and when Harold Wilson was Prime Minister John Lord was lead vocalist and guitar in several Bands culminating with The John Lord Band in which Jackie was to become vocalist and Drummer (yes a lady Drummer - very unusual at that time). John then married Jackie so he didn't have to pay her! The Band played at a very large number of Wedding Receptions, nobody ever had a disco in those days. It had always been Johns ambition to own a Rolls-Royce and in 1968 the first Rolls-Royce was purchased, it wasn't a very good one but at that time we didn't know any better. Subsequently the car was changed for a better one which was used as a gift for a friends Wedding. This started us off, we got properly licensed and insured, a couple more cars were purchased, our first part time Chauffeur was employed (Arthur who was to be with us for many years) and John Lords Luxury Limousines was started. We continued with the Band but also another company started up called Jackie Lords Bridal, this under Jackies guidance dealt with Wedding Stationery, Wedding Photography and other aspects of Weddings. Gradually the fleet of cars grew and The John Lord Band, John Lord Luxury Limousines and Jackie Lords Bridal were merged into one - Lord Cars Ltd. One by one the other aspects of Weddings in which we were involved were dropped and in 1990 the Band gave its last performance. From then we concentrated on making Lord Cars Ltd the premier supplier of Wedding cars it is today, the experience gained over the years in many aspects of Weddings greatly helping that end.

  28. How do we set about booking cars for our Wedding?

  1. You need to have a proper quotation. Click on Quotations and give us the information asked for or telephone us with the information on 01707 262520. We will send a quotation in the post, we will tell you which cars are already booked on your day and you will have a fixed price for every car available. We will also send a viewing schedule for the next few weeks (it is not practical to come on a day when numbers of the cars are out on Weddings). You can come in the evening, the building housing the cars is very well lit.

  2. Telephone us and make an appointment to view the cars. For security reasons we cannot deal with you if you turn up without an appointment. When you come Jackie will take you through our photo albums to decide which cars you wish to see. We also have large professional photos of most of the cars on the walls of our office. John will then take you to the cars and show you the ones in which you are interested plus their matching Bridesmaids cars. Most people are utterly amazed when they see all forty of our cars together in the one place. However don't look at too many of them or you will become totally confused.

  3. It is best if you are able to decide there and then paying a deposit of £50 per car. You can use a cheque, credit card or cash. If you wish to delay making a decision, or you are going on to see Wedding cars elsewhere, you can make a booking by phone using a credit card. We do not have provisional bookings, the cars are either available or definitely booked with a deposit paid. The booking deposit is not refundable or transferable in the event of cancellation.

  4. When you decide on your cars we give you a written confirmation of the booking. Subsequently you telephone us if anything changes.

  5. Three or four weeks before the Wedding you telephone us to make a further appointment. At that stage we carefully plan all the routes with you and work out timings. At this final check out you also settle your balance.

  6. The cars appear outside the Brides house 15 minutes before the planned departure time and then complete your Wedding.

  29. How far in advance do you take bookings?

We are always able to provide fixed quotations up to three years in advance. We have a computer system for our quotations which constantly keeps up to date and is usually quite accurate. The system also does not allow us to make a mistake and double book any car. If your Wedding is taking place on a Saturday or Sunday between April and October you should be dealing with the cars 12 months in advance if you want plenty of choice. The later you leave it the more cars will be booked.

  30. Why are your cars all named?

This is to make it easier for you to identify them. John and Jackie Lord name the cars.

  31. Why do your cars have whitewall tyres?

This is done to make them more photogenic, on most Weddings the cars usually spend more time being photographed and videod than being driven.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU SEE THE CARS
